Chicago Recovers From Lollapalooza, Part One

It was at some point between the sonic assaults of the Hold Steady and the Shins on the third day of Lollapalooza 2006 that the Bastion was desperate for reprieve. We then stumbled upon a woodsy shaded area known as the Mindfield. The 3 p.m. performance by Mission IMPROVable was the absolute perfect solution to sun-dancing-beer exhaustion.
Except for some intermittent sound issues with the wireless mics competing with 30 Seconds to Mars and Andrew Bird (the only time you'll see them head-to-head, we guarantee), the performance was hilarious. The area at the Mindfield stage was jammed with onlookers and audience participants for the Halftime Sketch, the "101 ____" Joke-Off, the Rap Battle, and Guess the Scene, which was especially priceless when the audience called back a cast member from his "isolation chamber" with an enthusiastic, "Seriously dude, what the f#%&!" This prompted more than a few passersby to stop in their tracks on their way to to Matisyahu, we're pretty sure.
Unfortunately, the Bastion had to leave before the performance was over, as the Shins were up and, come on, they are THE SHINS. It wasn't really an option, you know?
Photo ganked from the University of Wisconsin -- Oshgosh Web site, because in all of the excitment of the weekend, the Bastion forgot to grab its camera.
