Chicago Underground Comedy founding member Andy Ross has packed a moving truck and is shoving off for New York City, where, among other new opportunities, he will sit at the writers' table for the Onion News Network. After having spent several years in Chicago honing his writing skills with stand-up, theater ("A Demon Who Never Appeared") a sitcom ("Flocked"), and other efforts, we predict Andy will find his dream job at the writers' table at a sitcom before too much longer.

Andy gave the Bastion some scoop about his impending geographic shift: "My lovely wife got into Columbia Grad School, so it's been a mad dash to sell our furniture and move to Manhattan. The timing was pretty perfect, I guess. During our trip to find an expensive apartment, I interviewed at the Onion News Network. They've invited me to join the writers' table there this month, which is a huge honor. Having grown up near Madison, I devoured the Onion every week, and now I get to contribute as they grow their video division."

He went on to explain his anticipation of carving out a creative comedy live in New York: "I'm excited to reconnect with Chicago ex-pats and perform more often. In anticipation, I've been writing a lot -- stand-up, character monologues, some sitcom scripts -- and I hope that it might lead to a full-time writing job for TV. Until then, though, I'll still be painting signs for Trader Joe's. There's a new one opening in Queens, so I'm thinking maybe a mural of Spiderman eating some organic chocolate. I'm going to miss Chicago a lot. There's so much talent here, and it's held by genuinely nice, warm people. I hope to come back regularly to recharge on Midwest goodwill and drunken genius."
